Matomo is a web analytics platform used for gathering statistics for some types of UVic websites. Most public-facing UVic websites hosted in Cascade use Google Analytics managed by University Communications + Marketing.
This service is hosted on-campus which means no user data is sent off-campus and gathers anonymous visitor IP information. Our installation of Matomo is configured to report server log information, which means it provides statistics on all types of user traffic and file access.
Matomo is suitable for use on websites where Google Analytics can't be used for privacy reasons. For example, sites hosted on
- the Online Academic Community (OAC)
- web.uvic.ca webhosting, including ones with domain aliases
- NetLink ID authenticated or untracked pages in Cascade

How do I request or access this service?
You'll need to be the owner or administrator of the website. Contact the Computer Help Desk with the URL of the UVic site you want added to Matomo.
Once your site has been set-up you can access the Matomo reports through using your NetLink ID and passphrase. UVic MFA is required to access this service.
What is the cost for this service?
This service is provided free of charge.
When is this service available?
This system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. You can be informed of service interruptions by subscribing to .
