Terms & conditions for use of official ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø websites

Any use of a website or its contents or both (collectively: "website") hosted by the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø ("UVic") is subject to the following terms and conditions. Use of a website hosted by UVic is conclusive evidence that the user has read, understood, and accepted the following terms and conditions. If you do not want to accept the following terms and conditions, do not use a website hosted by UVic.

Each user of a website expressly accepts all risks and consequences, whether direct or indirect and whether known or unknown, associated with or resulting from such use.

Each user of a website agrees that all materials, including information, data, text, software, music, sounds, graphics or video ("content") whether publicly posted or privately transmitted, are the sole responsibility of the party from which such content originated. Each user agrees that they will not upload, post, transmit or otherwise make available any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary right of any party.

Each user of a website expressly accepts that UVic is not responsible for and expressly disclaims any responsibility, whether express or implied, for the accuracy, adequacy, or completeness of the website or for the consequences, whether direct or indirect and whether known or unknown, of using the website or any link from the website to another website or its contents.

Each user of a website expressly accepts that UVic does not assume any responsibility for the uninterrupted or error free operation of the website or warrant or represent that the website is free of viruses or other harmful components.

Each user of a website expressly accepts that UVic is not liable, whether directly or indirectly, to any person or thing including without limitation any corporation, association, or trade union for any damages (including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages) arising out of or in connection with use of, misuse of, or inability to use the website.

Each user of a website expressly accepts that the website is neither supervised, nor censored, nor moderated, nor approved by UVic. Each such user further expressly accepts that the website may include links to other websites such as discussion groups and homepages, which may contain or direct the user to contents including the personal opinions and other forms of self-expression of third parties on a wide-range of topics, including controversial and sensitive topics. Each such user further expressly accepts that UVic neither endorses nor makes any representations to users of the website about such contents. Each such user is, however, expressly warned that such contents may offend some users of the website. User who feels that they may be offended by such contents should stop using the website immediately.

Each user of a website expressly acknowledges that they are aware the website is an inherently public medium. Each such user expressly accepts that no guarantee of privacy is or can be made to users of the website by UVic.

Each user of a website expressly agrees that any disputes, claims, complaints or actions they may choose to advance arising from their use of the website will be decided by the courts and other tribunals established under and applying the laws of British Columbia excluding the law relating to choice of law and forum conveniens. Each such user further expressly agrees that they have attorned to the jurisdiction of the courts and other tribunals of British Columbia for the purpose of resolving any such dispute, claim, complaint, or action.

Each user of the uvic.ca website expressly acknowledges that they are aware the website uses cookies to improve and customize their browsing experience, for analytics and metrics about users both on this website and other digital media, and for marketing and communications purposes, including to measure the effectiveness of UVic’s digital marketing and communications. This includes using remarketing tools, which enables UVic to serve users with relevant advertisements on third-party sites outside of the uvic.ca domain.
