Notices & Bulletins

Notices or bulletins contain important information regarding services offered by University Systems. These may include campus communications regarding changes to services or new service offerings, notification of large-scale planned outages, or recommendations on newly released software. Apple introduced a new operating system (Sequoia/macOS 15) on September 26, 2023. Sequoia is the latest release of the Apple operating system for Macintosh computers such as iMacs, MacBooks and Mac Pros. For more details on Sequoia see https://www.apple.com/macos/sequoia/. A thorough test and review of the release version of Sequoia is currently underway to ensure that the new macOS is compatible with the software and system sour community relies on for teaching and research. This includes UVic specific applications and services. Until testing is complete, University Systems does not recommend upgrading to Sequoia.

Between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Thursday Aug 8, 2024, UVic experienced issues with delivery of some email messages. Some email messages were delivered to the Junk folder instead of the inbox folder, and some messages may not have been delivered at all.

We're upgrading all employee email accounts from Exchange 2016 to Exchange Online. This first phase of our Exchange Online upgrade project will only upgrade primary NetLink ID email accounts. Role-based email accounts will be migrated in Phase 2 starting in 2025.

We're upgrading our self-service student web hosting services. This update will help us maintain the technical currency of UVic's web hosting service. All studentweb.uvic.ca sites will upgrade on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

We鈥檙e excited to launch our new IT support request system in August 2024. This will help us create a more efficient IT support experience for the UVic community.

We're upgrading our self-service web hosting services. This update will help us maintain the technical currency of UVic's web hosting service. All web.uvic.ca sites will upgrade on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

University Systems has implemented several email protection enhancements as part of the project to migrate employee email accounts to Exchange Online.

The University's central administrative system (Banner) used for student records, payroll, and finance will be unavailable on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 9:30 am until 4:00 pm to perform planned system maintenance. Banner and all services dependent on Banner will be unavailable during the scheduled Banner maintenance.

University Systems is excited to share that Microsoft Teams Phone is now available.

The University's central administrative system (Banner) used for student records, payroll, and finance will be unavailable on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. to perform planned system maintenance. Banner and all services dependent on Banner will be unavailable during the scheduled Banner maintenance.

Microsoft is upgrading the application you use for Microsoft Teams to a new version. The old version of Teams is now known as 鈥淢icrosoft Teams (classic).鈥 The new version of Teams is 鈥淢icrosoft Teams (work or school).鈥 On Dec 21st, 2023, University Systems will be changing the version of Microsoft Teams that opens by default to the new version.

Updated Apple introduced a new operating system (Sonoma/macOS 14) on September 26, 2023. Sonoma is the latest release of the Apple operating system for Macintosh computers such as iMacs, MacBooks and Mac Minis. A thorough test and review of the release version of Sonoma has been completed to ensure the new macOS is compatible with the software and computing environment our community relies on for teaching and research. This includes UVic specific applications and services.

Starting on October 25, 2023, Microsoft 365 email users will receive a notification daily of any emails that were quarantined. You will be able to take action on these quarantined emails.

Microsoft is retiring its Stream (Classic) video hosting service and it will be replaced by a new experience, Stream (on SharePoint).

Microsoft is making changes in mid-January 2023 to the types of services Office 365 desktop applications can connect to. The centrally hosted service Connect (SharePoint 2013) will be affected by this change. University Systems is taking steps to ensure access to Connect from Office 365 desktop applications is not impacted for Office 365 installations acquired through UVic.
