Archive files using IBM Spectrum Protect: Mac OS X
Storage and backups
All users should be using backups for day to day backup of their system. Archives should only be used when you want to archive a specific instance of a file/directory (and typically then remove the file/directory from your computer). The archived file/directory will be kept in the backup system for 7 years after which it will be deleted and no longer available.
- In the Finder, navigate to the Application folder and then open the IBM Spectrum Protect folder. Double click on IBM Spectrum Protect Tools for Administrators.
- From the dialog box, select IBM Spectrum Protect and click OK.
- Enter your computer's administrator username and password.
- If prompted, enter your computer's TSM node name and password.
- In the IBM Spectrum Protect window, click the Archive icon:
- Browse and select your files for archiving.
- To view your hard drive, click on the triangle icon beside your node name to expand the navigate window. In this example, the node name is SYST.DEPT.VICTORY.
- Click on the triangle beside Local to expand, and then click on the triangle beside your hard drive name to expand further. In this example, the hard drive name is OSX.
- Continue expanding the file structure until you find the folders/files you would like to archive.
- Place a checkmark in the box beside each file and folder that you would like archived. Be careful not to select any remote network volumes.
- Click the Archive button once all files and folders that need to be archived have been selected.
- The Task List window, which displays transfer progress, will open. This process could take several minutes while the backup is in progress.
- Click OK when the archiving is complete.
- You will be returned to the Detailed Status Report window. If errors have occurred, the last encountered error will be displayed at the bottom of the Detailed Status Report window. Select View to inspect other error messages.
- Close the window and exit TSM.
