Tuition, fees & budgeting
The cost of your education depends on:
- how many classes you take
- how you get around (car, bus, bike)
- where you live
- where (and what) you eat
Consider this and your tuition and fee costs when planning your yearly budget.
Paying your acceptance deposit
If you're a new UVic undergraduate student, you'll need to pay your acceptance deposit after accepting your admission offer.
- the Academic Calendar has information about paying your acceptance deposit, including payment amounts
Once your payment is received, the deposit will appear as a payment on your and be applied to your future tuition fees.
View our tuition fees FAQs for more information or contact us for help.
Please note that we do not accept cash, e-transfer or credit card payments.
Make a payment within Canada
From a Canadian financial institution:
Follow the instructions from your financial institution's online bill payment service for setting up a payee and sending a payment.
Set up the payee as 番茄社区 Tuition. The account number should be your student number (e.g. V0XXXXXXX). Please note the payee name may vary slightly between financial institutions i.e. 番茄社区 Tuition, Tuition Fees, Fees, etc. If you are unable to identify the payee, please contact your bank for help.
Please allow at least 1-2 business days for the payment to be processed into your tuition account. You can check to see if payment has been processed by logging into Online tools.
e-Transfer® (INTERAC e-Transfer) payments via email notification are not accepted by the university. To pay fees electronically, use your financial institution’s online bill payment services.

- It can take up to 10 business days for your payment by mail to be received and processed. If you choose to send your payment by mail, make sure you send it with plenty of time before the deadline.
Make a payment from outside Canada
UVic has partnered with Convera to provide international students with a fast and affordable way to make payments from outside of Canada.
The Convera GlobalPay for Students service allows you to arrange payments in your own currency. Since exchange rates are secured in advance and funds are transferred locally, you don’t have to worry about currency fluctuations or international wire fees.
Benefits:
- You make payment in the currency of your choice. This amount is then converted to Canadian dollars.
- The exchange rate quote is locked in for your payment for 72 hours after the quote is obtained.
- The exchange rate is competitive when compared to your financial institution’s retail rates, and bank service fees may be reduced since the wire transfer that you initiate is a local transfer.
- There are NO transaction charges from Convera or UVic, though you may be charged a transaction fee by your bank.
To make a payment using Convera GlobalPay for Students:
- Access the system using your UVic student number and preferred contact email address.
- For ’1-Tuition Fees’ enter the amount owing on your tuition account summary.
- Select your local currency. The amount owing in your local currency will be automatically calculated.
- Select who is making the payment from the ‘Who is Paying’ drop-down list and complete the required payment details fields. If the payer is different from the student, you can enter payer details here.
- Confirm your quote by agreeing to the total cost in your home currency and agree to the conditions.
- Payment instructions will be sent to the email address provided. Print the payment instructions, take them to your bank and follow the instructions to transfer the required amount to Convera. Note: the payment must be completed within 72 hours. If the 72 hour period has elapsed and you have not made the payment at your bank, go back to the site to obtain a new quote. The expiry date is noted on the payment instructions page.
Once funds have been transferred to Convera, they will be credited to your UVic account in Canadian dollars. No fees will be charged by UVic or Convera when using this service, though your bank may charge a fee to make the local currency transfer. However, DO NOT SEND more than the tuition you are charged. Any overpayments will be credited to future tuition and will not be refunded to the student.
*See the GlobalPay for Students FAQ page for answers to some common questions.*
If you are making your payment from a bank account outside of Canada and you are not able to use the option, you may send your payment to the 番茄社区 via international wire transfer.

IBAN # will be a combination of Bank Number 003, transit # 5digits & account # 7 digits all together (e.g 003080000000091)
- Ensure that your bank uses your student ID number and name in the reference field for the wire transfer.
- Send a scanned copy of your payment receipt to tuition@uvic.ca to ensure that we are made aware of your payment. Failure to do so will mean it will take longer for your tuition payment to be identified. You are responsible for ensuring that the payment arrives before the payment deadline.
- If we receive your payment after the deadline, you will be responsible for paying a 1.5% service charge on the overdue balance.
Reminders:
Routing banks often take a $25 wire transfer fee from your payment, so the amount the 番茄社区 receive is less than what you pay. In order to avoid your payment being short you should include $25 extra in wire transfer payment amount. However, DO NOT SEND more than this extra $25 in your wire transfer. Any overpayments will be credited to future tuition and will not be refunded to the student.
If you are calculating currency exchange rates be sure to use the sell exchange rate.
We recommend that you use one of the electronic methods of payment. If this is not possible, we do accept cheques in US dollars. The university is not responsible for mail service delivery.
Postmarks on envelopes are not viewed as the received date. If a payment is received past the fee deadline a service charge will be assessed. The cheque can be mailed to the below address:

Tuition fees
Check your balance
As a current student, you can view your tuition fees for the current term (and past terms) in Online tools. You can see the balance owing under "term balance."
Future UVic students can find an estimate of tuition costs on the Undergraduate admissions and Graduate admissions pages.
The academic calendar lists all tuition rates:
Fee reduction appeals
If you drop a course due to extenuating circumstances, you can submit an appeal for a fee reduction to the Fee Reduction Appeals Committee. Appeals will only be considered for:
- illness, family affliction, accident or other compelling circumstances
- administrative errors.
Fee payment deadlines
It is very important that payment is received by the appropriate deadline.
Fees are due by the following dates:
- Fall term: September 30
- Spring term: January 31
- Summer term: May 31
The fee payment deadlines are published in the Academic Calendar every year.
Graduate Student Tuition Income Offset Plan
The graduate tuition income offset plan lets you pay tuition fees in four equal instalments over each four month term.
Third party billing
Sometimes third parties agree to pay fees on behalf of a student with third party billing. In these cases both the student and sponsoring party agree to certain responsibilities.
Student fees
In addition to tuition, there may be fees for services offered by UVic. Some of these fees are charged every term and paid with your tuition. Others are charged on an individual basis when you request the service.
Budgeting resources
A budget is a simple way for you to manage your money to make sure it lasts for your entire academic year. Here are some useful resources:
Tuition tax forms
Tuition receipts (T2202s and T4a's if applicable) are issued in February for the preceding calendar year.
