Once you’ve confirmed your offer of admission, it’s time to plan for your first term at UVic. Here is a little information to get you started.

Indigenous students

In addition to regular orientation events, Indigenous students are invited to attend Indigenous Student Orientation. Events include the Week of Welcome for Indigenous students, which starts during the second week of classes.

Welcome to Canada. As an international student, in addition to regular orientation programming, you can participate in a program specially designed for you. The International Student Welcome introduces you to UVic staff and students who will help you settle into life at UVic.

Course registration begins in mid-June for both the fall and spring terms and mid-March for the summer session. Learn about program planning.

Pay your tuition fees

Register for a math pretest

If you haven’t completed grade 11/12 math through a Canadian curriculum high school, you will likely need to write a math pretest. This will confirm that you meet the prerequisites for certain math courses. Sign up to write the online test before you arrive at UVic.

Get your student ID card

Your university photo ID is called a ONECard. It’s your official identification card and campus debit card, and you'll use it throughout your full course of study. It’s also your bus pass, meal plan card, library card and athletics pass.

Upload your photo online and then visit the ONECard office in the Jamie Cassels Centre lobby to pick up your card when it's ready.

Sign up for an orientation program

Your orientation to UVic starts before you even set foot on campus. Our online pre-arrival program will make your first weeks a little easier and set you up for success. This program will help you:

• learn what to expect at UVic, inside and outside the classroom
• learn what supports and services are available to you
• explore some strategies for university success
• feel confident to start the term

UVic Orientation also offers programs at the beginning of the term. You'll meet new friends, explore campus and gain insight on how to succeed at UVic.

Visit the info booth

The is located in the Student Union Building (SUB). It's the place to go for:

• information about your Extended Health and Dental Plan
• general information about the UVSS
• vendor bookings
• SUB lost and found
• maps of Vancouver Island and the lower mainland
• poster approval (so you can display them on campus bulletin boards)
• validating your student card to use it as your bus pass

Academic & learning supports

Be sure to visit the C.W. Lui Learning Commons in the library to check out workshops, services and support for all your academic needs. You’ll find a wide range of academic and learning supports to help you succeed.

Residence Move-in Day

If you’re living on campus in the fall, Residence Move-In Day will help you settle in your new home. UVic staff and students will be on hand all day to help you get your keys and answer any questions. 

We also have an orientation specifically for students living in residence. You’ll meet your community leaders and floormates, learn your way around campus and take a trip to the beach. If you’re living in residence, you’re automatically registered.
