SafeWalk

Our SafeWalk service is available to anyone who feels unsafe walking alone on campus. We’ll escort you anywhere within the boundaries of UVic’s campus, including the Ian Stewart Complex. SafeWalk is available to all members of the university community, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 250-721-7599.

You can also call any of Campus Security’s 15 direct dial phones to request SafeWalk. Press the button labelled "security" to request a SafeWalk escort.

We’ll do our best to get your SafeWalk escort to you as soon as possible. However, there may be times when your escort is delayed. If you leave us a call-back number, we’ll make sure to get in touch in the event of a lengthy delay.

Campus Alone

Campus Alone is available to anyone who feels unsafe studying or working alone on campus at night or during weekends and holidays.

Call Campus Security Services at 250-721-7599. You’ll need to give us the following information:

  1.  Your name, your exact location and your office or cell phone number.
  2. An estimated time of departure. If this changes, you must let us know.
  3. Your mode of travel. We might also need a vehicle description and the location of your parked vehicle.

Call us again at 250-721-7599 just before you leave. If we don’t receive a call from you letting us know you’re leaving, a security officer will follow up and check on you.

We’ll make every effort to visit you and check in when you are working alone. However, if there are any emergencies on campus, our securities officers might be unable to visit you.

Sexualized violence response

If you have experienced sexualized violence and you have immediate concerns about your health and safety, you should call Campus Security and/or Saanich Police.

If you have been impacted by sexualized violence, and there is no immediate health or safety concerns but you want information, advice, support, and to understand your options you should email, call or stop by the Sexualized Violence Resource Office in Equity and Human Rights. The office is also a key access point for sexualized violence prevention education options and referrals.
