In-course scholarships and awards
Undergraduate students who attend UVic in the regular Winter Session are eligible for a number of scholarships, awards, medals and prizes made available through contributions from corporate and individual donors as well as from the University operating budget. Scholarships, awards, medals and prizes are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit. These are referred to as in-course scholarships.
The majority of in-course scholarships do not require an application unless otherwise specified; they are awarded on the basis of academic merit or department nomination.
Available in-course scholarships and awards
In-course scholarships and awards fall into three categories based on the application type. To be eligible incourse students must normally be a full-time student registered in a minimum of 12 academic units of study in two academic terms in the 12 month (May to April) period immediately preceding the adjudication of the scholarships and awards.
Application required
- Awarded based on GPA and other scholarship-specific criteria.
- Requires either an application through a specific department (deadlines vary) or the UVic online application via Online tools which is open April 1 to May 31; students must normally have completed 12 academic units of study in two academic terms between May to April.
Application not required
- Awarded based on academic excellence in a minimum of 12 academic units in two terms of study in the 12 month period (May to April) immediately preceding the adjudication of awards.
Department or specific criteria
- Awarded based on GPA and other scholarship-specific criteria.
- May require an application either from the department or the Online tools online application for scholarships and awards.

Scholarship information for students going on exchange
We have created a handout with general information for students who are planning on registering for an approved UVic exchange. Please review it for basic answers to some of the most common questions that students have. We recommend that all students speak to a Scholarship Officer in person or by email if they are going on exchange in order to make sure that our office can provide the most current information.

In-course scholarships for international students
UVic's strong commitment to its international student community includes scholarships and awards for international students.
International undergraduate students who attend UVic in the regular Winter Session are eligible for a number of awards made available through contributions from corporate and individual donors as well as from the University's operating budget.
To be eligible for any scholarship offered by UVic, an undergraduate student must normally be a full-time student registered in a total of 12 or more units of study, of which 10.5 units are graded using the standard nine-point scale, in the two academic terms in the 12 month period (May to April) immediately preceding the adjudication of awards.
