Formats
When the mark is used vertically the preferred orientation is with the "U" at the top, though the "C" at the top can be used if it better suits the application.
Size
The mark's size should be thought of in relation to the medium in which it's being used. Always make sure it's visibly larger than the logo, when the logo is used, and not sized or placed in a way that makes it look like a logo.
Colour
- UVic blue
- Black
- Reverse
- One colour
The blue, black and reverse versions are used most often. Which one to use depends on the background and colour arrangement on the page.
The one-colour version is only used when colour printing cost is prohibitive.
When using the mark against a UVic core colour background that colour within the edge element of the "V" will blend into the background. This is okay and adds dynamism to the design.
Placement
The UVic mark can be placed top of page, bottom or rotated 90 degrees. It can be centered vertically and horizontally to the page as well, as long as it's not competing with anything.
When used over a photo, it's placed a way that enhances the photo without covering up the primary focus. On photos with a neutral background, it's used with a multiply transparency effect (Photoshop technique) set to 100%. On photos with a lot going on, full opacity usually works better so that the element doesn't compete with the photo.
Scale the UVic mark proportionally when placing it.
