We’re here to support you! Get help planning your degree, access academic support and connect with physical and mental health care. UVic also offers dedicated support for Indigenous students and international students.

Academic Advising

Get support choosing your program and courses and understanding your degree requirements.

Undergraduate students

Departmental advisers and the Academic Advising Centre are available for academic advice.

Your adviser can help you declare your major. You can declare your major after completing 12 units (usually 8 courses). Declaring your program will connect you with your peers, professors and advisers in your academic community.

Graduate students

For advice on issues related to your graduate program, contact your program’s graduate adviser.

Academic support

Academic support is available through the Learning Commons.

The Centre for Academic Communication offers tutoring, workshops and other services.

 The UVic academic calendar is the basic guide to all academic regulations. You should especially be familiar with:

Faculty of Humanities Procedures for Review of an Assigned Grade

If you run into a problem, start by talking to your instructor. If you aren't able to do that, or if talking to the instructor doesn't resolve the issue, talk to the Chair of the Department that offers the course or program. You can also contact the , an impartial and confidential resource. 

Health & wellness support

 The Student Wellness Centre provides emotional, physical and spiritual care.

UVic Bounce

UVic Bounce is an initiative through which faculty and alumni share their experiences as students, welcoming and championing diverse stories to build a more connected, supportive and inclusive campus community. Through videos and podcasts, UVic Bounce shares profoundly human stories of loss, relationship difficulties, mental health, grief, academic struggles, transitions and much more to de-stigmatize discussions around challenge and difficulty and to create room for a wider range of experiences and perspectives in our community. 

UVic Bounce was inspired by the  and  and other projects whose aim is to raise awareness, provide support and make more room for conversations about student mental health, wellness, suicide and the diverse experiences of being a post-secondary student.

UVic Bounce is funded by the Faculty of Humanities and a 2020 grant from the President’s Strategic Impact Fund. We’ve also had generous support from UVic’s Alumni Association and the Faculties of Engineering and Computer Science, Law and Social Sciences.
