How do I get my group plan number for enrolling in CARESnet?

  • Check your Pacific Blue Cross ID card.

How do I get my benefits ID card?

  • Pacific Blue Cross will mail your ID card to your home address.
  • You can also print a copy after logging into .

I'm already enrolled in my spouse's/partner's benefits plan. Do I need to enroll in the UVic plan too?

  • If your spouse or partner's benefits plan allows dual coverage, at time of enrollment you can add them and your dependents to UVic's benefits plan.

Who's an eligible dependent for group extended health and dental coverage?

  • Your legal spouse or common-law partner (a common-law partner is a person who has been publicly represented as your spouse for at least one year).
  • Any child, stepchild, legally adopted child, or legal ward who is unmarried and dependent on the employee, and under age 21 years (children under age 21 are not covered if they are working more than 30 hours a week, unless they are full-time students) or age 21 to 25 and in full-time attendance at a recognized educational institute.
  • If a child is no longer a student, the coverage will cease at the end of the month of finishing school or university.
  • If the child is incapable of supporting themselves because of physical or mental disorder, they're covered without age limit if the disorder begins before they turn age 21, or while they're students under age 25, and the disorder has been continuous since that time.

  • Please apply for dependent coverage within one month of the date of marriage or acquisition of an eligible dependent.

How long do I have to submit claims to Pacific Blue Cross?

  • If you have any unclaimed health and dental expenses from last year, you have until December 31st of the current year to submit them.

How do I designate or change a beneficiary for my basic group life insurance/optional life insurance?

  • When you enroll, you will be asked to nominate a beneficiary on the enrollment form.
  • To update or change your beneficiary nomination, complete a change of beneficiary form and return it to the Benefits Office.

Can I name my minor child as my beneficiary?

  • Minor children may be named as beneficiaries; however while your children are legally considered minors, you must also appoint a trustee on their behalf.
  • If you do not appoint a trustee, in the event of your death your children may have to wait until age 19 before the life insurance funds can be released.

How do I purchase or increase my existing optional life insurance coverage?

  • Eligible employees and spouses can purchase this insurance in multiples of $25,000 to $500,000.
  • Evidence of insurability is required before any amount becomes effective.
  • To purchase or increase your optional life insurance complete the optional group life insurance plan application package and return it to the benefits office.

How do I cancel my optional life insurance coverage?

How much are premiums for coverage in the university's group plans?

  • Premiums are cost-shared with the university.

How do I get my benefit statement?

  • Get your benefit statement online by accessing online tools through your Employee Dashboard.

Is the employee and family assistance program (EFAP) a confidential service? Will my employer know that I am using this service?

  • This is an employer paid benefit which is completely confidential.
  • This service is provided by TELUS Health. Employees and eligible dependents can access the service 24/7 by visiting the website or calling 1.844.880.9142.
