The building form rises gently from north to south, bringing the following key benefits:

  • The building rises up to offer generous views and physical connections to the south forest from the primary teaching and learning and research spaces in the building
  • Concentrating the highest massing at the south end minimizes shadowing from the expansion onto the existing, particularly onto existing offices in the Fraser administration block
  • Water can move freely from south to north and collect in natural depressions towards the exiting main entrance
  • The double height atrium space has a direct connection with the tall trees to the south
