Green Buildings

Green Buildings

Sustainability is a core value and it is reflected in the design, construction, and operations of every new building on campus. The David Turpin Building is one of the facilities on campus that achieved Gold level status in the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.

Campus Planning

The Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability is committed to shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for our campus through community planning, engagement and collaboration. Our work is guided by the Campus Plan, a long-term vision that addresses critical challenges such as housing, climate change, and transportation, all while supporting academic program growth and innovative research. We strive to create a built environment that fosters social interaction and enhances a sense of community through thoughtful urban design. Our approach emphasizes cohesive and inclusive spaces that support collaboration and well-being, while integrating natural and built elements to create a vibrant, sustainable campus.

As we engage our communities in planning for campus development, rejuvenation and change, we acknowledge with respect the Lekwungen peoples whose traditional territory the 番茄社区 stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.

UVic Campus Plan

In 2015, UVic initiated a transformative planning and engagement process to reimagine the future of our campus. The Campus Plan establishes a clear and actionable framework that continues to guide our decisions on land use, urban design, transportation, and open spaces. Approved by the Board of Governors in 2016, the Plan is the result of extensive research, analysis, and engagement with our campus community and neighbours.

As our campus evolves, we are continually refining our approach to ensure it reflects the needs and aspirations of our community. The Campus Plan builds on the university's legacy of planning, taking insights from previous initiatives while positioning us for future success.
