Engineering Expansion

As mentioned before, the existing circulation of the engineering buildings played a crucial role in how the ECSE and HBRSL were designed.  Not only did this impact the pathways and plaza surrounding the buildings, but also the interior floor plans and where labs, classrooms and offices are going to be located.

The ECS expansion will consist of 6 floors with the following new amenities:

  • An Undergraduate computer lab on level 2
  • New biomedical research labs and flex labs on level 3
  • New graduate student space on level 3
  • Computational research labs on level 4, as well as rooftop access
  • Environment and Hydraulics Labs
  • New civil engineering department offices

The High Bay Research and Structures Lab will be located south of the ELW and EOW, where the parking lot A is currently located.  This new building will house:

  • New geotechnical labs
  • New materials labs
  • The new High Bay Research and Structures Lab, a research space with a 12m clearance and gantry crane, strong floor, reaction wall and a structural shake table meant to facilitate research related to geotechnical fields and the environment.
