About Tanisha
Tansi! I am Cree Metis on my father’s side, and I carry English, German and Norwegian ancestry. I am originally from Treaty 6 but have had the honor to live in Lekwungen Territory for the last 10 years.
After high school, I spent some time working and traveling before deciding to pursue post-secondary education. I moved to Victoria to attend UVic and quickly felt at home. The city’s blend of small-town charm and urban amenities made the transition from my hometown seamless. The university’s beautiful campus, with the First Peoples House at its heart, provided a special space for Indigenous students and a supportive community that helped me through those initial semesters. Now, ten years later, I’m proud to have achieved my degree, which has opened many doors and opportunities in my career. As an Indigenous recruiter, I’m thrilled to be here, uplifting and supporting the next generation of Indigenous brilliance!
My advice to future university students
University is a uniquely expansive time in your life, and it’s okay not to have everything figured out right away. This period is full of new experiences, so embrace them and keep exploring until you find your path. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, connect with fellow students (many of whom may become lifelong friends), and most importantly, follow your heart. You’ve got this!
