Lifespan stream

Lifespan psychology enhances our understanding of how individuals change and grow, and the different factors that influence this process.

Courses in this stream examine developmental phenomena throughout the lifespan, starting with the prenatal period and infancy and extending into adulthood and old age.

The study of lifespan development encompasses age-related changes in cognitive, social, emotional and health-related behaviours, and how family, peers, neighbourhoods, schools and the larger cultural context influence these changes.

Research in this area provides the foundation for understanding atypical development and for the design and evaluation of effective prevention and intervention programs.

This stream provides opportunities for training in methods and designs that lifespan researchers use to study the development of individuals, as well as hands-on research and community-based partnerships.
