CORE

Since 2011, the Centre for Outreach Education (CORE) has been dedicated to providing education support to children in the community who need it the most. Our services fill important gaps for children who aren't otherwise able to access the support that they need. We also work with partners like College of the Rockies and Songhees First Nation to facilitate mobile learning opportunities across BC.  

• Over 1000 children in the Greater Victoria community have been supported through CORE programs
• Nearly 200 undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Education have gained valuable work experience through working directly with children and youth in CORE programs.

Salish Weave Project

In 2016, George and Christiane Smyth initiated a school program pilot project within the Cowichan Valley School District. With Becky Greenhow as the lead, a team of teachers came together to explore how to weave the art prints into their K-12 classroom teachings and developed the first lesson plans to use with the prints, sharing with colleagues from many school districts along the way. In 2019, the Smyths and the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø’s Faculty of Education launched a second pilot project, Salish Weave in the Classroom.
