Desktop Support Services
Your Desktop Support Services consultant is like your personal software and hardware assistant! They understand your department, your workstation, and your computing needs.
Responsibilities
Desktop Support Services (DSS) is contracted by departments to provide on-site desktop support to faculty and staff. Faculty and staff members whose departments are supported by DSS can call upon their support personnel for a wide range of computing issues:
- Workstation and network problems;
- Installation of computer hardware and software;
- Configuring and/or rebuilding computers;
- Printer setup; and
- Help with all university-supported applications.
Please note that DSS cannot provide support for home computers or computers outside of supported departments. Departments not covered by DSS should instead contact the Computer Help Desk.
DSS personnel
Desktop Support Services is staffed by a team of dedicated consultants with a broad range of technical experience and knowledge. Each department that subscribes to our services will have at least one consultant directly supporting their employees. Since consultants rarely change, they are able to build relationships with the departments they service. They will get to know you, learn your work habits, and understand your computing requirements, which lends itself to efficient service.
Tracking and resolution of problems
If you have a problem that requires immediate attention, please contact us.
Charging
Subscriptions are normally on a yearly basis. The cost of a subscription varies depending on the number of workstations in the department, the nature of the environment, and what services are needed. If a department subscribes to DSS, there is no cost for individuals within that department.
Desktop Support Services personnel are available weekdays during regular business hours.
