About Geography field study courses
Geography field study courses take students to the edge of glaciers, face-to-face with whales, and knee deep in mudflats. In addition to applying their classroom and textbook knowledge, students also hone their research skills through a major independent field-based project.
Many students go on to present their field studies projects at local and regional conferences, and even have them published in journals. Students who have taken these field courses find them to be an exciting, fun, and valuable capstone or culmination to their undergraduate career.
New field school information is posted when it is made available. Please contact geography@uvic.ca if you are interested or have any questions.
Fees and funding
Most field schools require payment of field school fees plus normal tuition. Field school fees range from a few hundred dollars per course to more than $1000 per course, depending on the field school.
Our field schools are directly subsidized by the Faculty of Social Sciences Field School Support Fund. No application is necessary to receive this support!
