Dr. Gair teaches in a variety of courses and modalities to the 1st and 2nd year UBC medical students at the Island Medical Program (IMP) at UVic.

On July 1, 2016, Dr. Gair was promoted to Teaching Professor (with tenure) with the Division of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Gair teaches in a variety of courses and modalities to the 1st and 2nd year UBC medical students at the Island Medical Program (IMP) at UVic. She teaches the Foundations of Medical Practice course using the Case-Based Learning (CBL) method of teaching. She is the IMP Site Lead for CBL, she trains the CBL tutors to teach in the IMP as the site Director for CBL Faculty Development, and she is actively involved in the implementation and evaluation of the new medical school curriculum and ongoing faculty development for the medical program across the province. She also teaches in the FLEX (flexible and enhanced learning) course where she is an Advisor, an Assessor, and a Supervisor for students in both years. Dr. Gair also delivers lectures and teaches workshops in medical genetics -- her area of expertise.

She has an interest in medical education research in the areas of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), CBL, and other ways of learning using small groups to teach and learn. She is also interested in medical and higher education internationally and has medical education research collaborations at the University of Newcastle in Australia, and at the Patan Academy of Health Sciences in Nepal, and teaching and learning collaborators and projects at the National University of Defense Technology in Changsha, China.

Dr. Gair is the Director of the UVic branch of the national “Let’s Talk Science” Outreach Program that provides free science outreach activities to communities across Vancouver Island and beyond. This program also provides community outreach and engagement volunteer opportunities for the medical students and is also a project focus in their FLEX course.

She is a member of the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR) at UVic and the Centre for Health Education Scholarship (CHES) at UBC.
