Chief Dan George Theatre
Chief Dan George (1899 – 1981) was chief of the Salish Band in Burrard Inlet, BC. He became Canada’s most distinguished Indigenous actor, working alongside the likes of Dustin Hoffman, Clint Eastwood and Donald Sutherland, and was Oscar-nominated for his role in Little Big Man (1970). A familiar face on TV, he appeared in shows like The Incredible Hulk, McCloud, Kung Fu, Bonanza and The Beachcombers. In addition to his film and television work, Chief Dan George was also a stage actor—notably in George Ryga's breakthrough play The Ecstasy of Rita Joe—as well as a musician, lecturer, poet and longshoreman.
