Gender inclusion services for students, staff and faculty
Name on your ONECard
ONECard is an essential piece of identification for all UVic students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and affiliates. You can have the first name that you use on your ONECard; it does not need to be your legal first name.
There are now processes to get your ONECard online as well as in person—please visit the ONECard website for more details. The first name on your government-issued ID does not need to match the name you’d like to use on your ONECard. Please ensure that the name you wish to use is showing in the university computer system under the heading “preferred name” in MyPage prior to arriving at the ONECard office.
Note that if you submit a photo online, cards are printed with your preferred name. While your first card is free, all replacement cards have a $20.00 charge.

All-gender washrooms on campus
There are a number of places at UVic with all-gender washrooms. Many are lockable single-stall washrooms and some are open multi-stalled washrooms.
To locate one, visit the all-gender washrooms map.
Athletics and CARSA Facilities
Inclusive washrooms, change rooms and weight room: CARSA has four gender-inclusive single-stall change rooms that have showers. Any patron can access either the gender-inclusive single-stall change room or the gendered change room. Gender-inclusive signage will be installed soon. Signage in the weight room is gender-inclusive. The weight room is open to persons of all genders and does not have gender-restricted areas.
. UVic Athletics and Recreation strives to provide welcoming opportunities for all participants and to enhance well being, participation and a sense of community on campus through intramural sport. They have created two Divisions for participation as follows:
- Open Category: Men, Women, Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary
This category welcomes individuals of all genders to participate. When participants sign up for a team, they are not asked to provide or state their gender. - Co-Recreation Category: Men, Women, Two-Spirit, Trans, Non-Binary
This category welcomes individuals of all genders to participate. However, teams must adhere to a maximum number of self-identified men. Please refer to each sport for specific guidelines.
If you encounter discrimination or harassment
We recognize that trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary individuals have in the past and may still experience harmful actions or encounters at UVic. This is an unfortunate reality.
If you encounter discrimination or harassment related to your gender identity or expression—whether on campus, in the classroom, residences, or elsewhere—UVic has resources to provide support. Please note that while our policies can address incidences that occur within our university’s jurisdiction, we provide support and referrals to everyone, regardless of where the incident occurred.
If you need immediate help, you can contact Campus Security by calling 250-721-7599. Campus Security is available 24/7 and will address immediate concerns and link you with on and off-campus resources. All staff have gone through sexualized violence training, and many have training in working with diverse cultures.
For non-emergency concerns, we encourage you to contact Equity and Human Rights. Our office is responsible for supporting all members of the UVic community who have experienced discrimination, harassment or sexualized violence, or have questions or concerns related to these topics. We can have a confidential conversation with you to hear what you have experienced, and discuss options.
The (AVP) provides support, education and resources to all students, staff, faculty and other community members who have been impacted by gender-based violence, whether by experiencing it directly, supporting someone who has, or by causing harm themselves. Their services can be accessed during drop-in hours or by appointment, and are provided by staff and volunteers with training and lived experience supporting and being trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit folks.
The Office of Student Life (OSL) administers the university’s Resolution of Non-Academic Misconduct Allegations Policy (AC1300). They are a resource for questions and concerns about student conduct on campus or in university activities. As part of the university’s commitment to promoting a safe, respectful and environment, this policy addresses student conduct that harms or threatens any member of the University Community or public. OSL can review reports about student conduct that endangers the health, safety or well-being of any community member. They can discuss options for response and support and can investigate formal allegations of non-academic misconduct. Staff at the Office of Student Life are committed to engaging with ongoing training and review of their approach to working with students through a Trauma-Informed lens.
