5 Days of Action 2022 Numbers Art Display
5 Days of Action art installation by Petch Fountain. Passerbys are invited to write their reflections on the giant colourful numbers (1 to 5) on the prompt for each day's theme.

Some events are in-person and some are offered online. All students, employees and community members are invited to participate throughout the week. In some events, target audiences are acknowledged.

Drop by our hub to learn about the weeks events while sipping on coffee and tea. Test your equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) knowledge and start conversations.

5 Days of Action Arts Exhibition

This exhibition of student art addresses the themes of the 5 Days of Action: listening, reflecting, dialogue, engaging and taking action. Showcasing a variety of artistic disciplines, the exhibition will feature visual arts, poetry, fiction, music and performance. Come experience this diverse range of student artwork. Co-sponsored by UVic Libraries and EQHR.

KILLJOYS: Art Exhibition

KILLJOYS is an annual art exhibition facilitated by the Visual Arts department but curated, installed and promoted by students. KILLJOYS as a collective challenges forms of systemic oppression and violence through student artwork. Through a variety of mediums, visitors will be implored to confront conventional ways of thinking and feeling. The name KILLJOYS derives from the Queer Theorist Sara Ahmed’s “Feminist Killjoys- killing joy as a world making project” which has led to  “The Feminist Killjoy Handbook- The Radical Potential of Getting in the Way”.


Monday, November 4: Listen

 This session will provide participants with accessible information about their rights and responsibilities under UVic’s new Discrimination and Harassment Policy.

Tuesday, November 5: Reflect

Developed to support UVic’s implementation of the Equity Action Plan (EAP), the Equity Lens ABCs is a simple yet effective tool that anyone can learn to use in their daily work.

UVic’s Music Student Association (MSA) presents their annual recital featuring underrepresented voices in music. School of Music student performers will present and discuss works that highlight marginalized voices, bringing awareness to EDI-related challenges that musicians and musical institutions are facing.

5 Days of Action Art Exhibition - Opening Reception

In response to the calls for action, UVic Libraries and EQHR are co-presenting an art exhibition featuring the work of ten UVic student artists. From painting to photography to poetry, the exhibition explores the calls to action through art that aims to end discrimination, harassment and sexualized violence in our communities and build an equity-centred culture together.

Rooting for Reclamation is a space of Black reclamation by guest curator Madison Bridal. Featuring local artists Aya Behr, Kemi Craig, Nathan Smith, and Tajah Olson, this exhibition showcases each artist's personal interpretation of what Black reclamation means to them.

Holy Cow Mini Donut Fundraiser

Come b(u)y some toasty and delicious mini donuts for a good cause! Proceeds will be donated to the (NSU). The NSU holds programs and events throughout the year that support the academic, cultural, spiritual growth and well-being of Indigenous students at UVic.

The Global Community Drop In is a space for students to connect and build relationships. Through a set of self-paced activities, this special edition of the GC Drop in is an opportunity for attendees to reflect upon identity, diversity, and community.

Workshop

This workshop explores how Islamophobia impacts our educational spaces. Beginning with an overview of the term Islamophobia and an exploration of its historical presence in Canada, the workshop examines how Muslim students, staff and faculty are impacted by negative public discourse about their faith. The workshop provides case studies, resources, and recommendations for leaders and students in educational spaces to support efforts to promote equity and inclusion and to ensure that the campus remains a safe environment for all.
