Co-op and career

Student and instructor working in a lab
One of our chemistry students worked a co-op term as an Outreach Instructor: "Working and living in 13 isolated communities was the highlight of this work term. I explored the high arctic, ate polar bear, and had the privilege of facilitating STEM-related workshops in Nunavut, Nunatsiavut, and the Innu Nations of Labrador."

Co-operative education program

Co-op at UVic started in Chemistry and Physics in 1976 and since then it has assisted hundreds of Chemistry Co-op graduates to launch successful careers. Today, one in four UVic students takes part in co-op—mixing school terms with paid work terms related to their degree programs. UVic’s Co-op program is one of the largest and most respected in Canada.

Co-op is more than just helping you find a summer job. Co-op staff and faculty work with you to develop your skills throughout your program so that when you graduate you will have a strong resume, a network of contacts, and good appreciation of the sort of career you want. Chemistry co-op students have worked all across Canada and internationally, in academic and industrial laboratories, and have used their Co-op positions to create their first job when they graduate.
