BSc Chemistry (2009)
Eric’s research program utilizes the new cyclotron facility at the UofS, where in the Chemistry lab, they are making new chelators, bioconjugation chemistry, and other radiopharmaceutical precursors. They then take these molecules to the cyclotron facility (the Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences, SCCS, run by the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear Innovation), and combine them with radioactive metals and radioactive halogens. They then use these radioactive "drugs" to try and improve early detection and treatment of diseases such as cancer, multi-drug resistant bacterial infections, and Alzheimer's disease.
My current life is completely a result of my experience at UVIC studying chemistry, and the Chemistry CO-OP program was instrumental in introducing me to the world of radiochemistry during two CO-OP terms at TRIUMF/UBC in 2006 and 2008. This led me to learn about an opening for a joint PhD degree between UBC and TRIUMF, where I completed a PhD synthesizing and testing new radiometal chelators.
Subsequent education: PhD Chemistry (UBC, 2014), Postdoctoral Fellowship (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 2014–2016)
