Yuliia Vatsyk is a visiting scholar at the Centre for Global Studies who is currently pursuing her PhD at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Department of Philosophy of Culture, Ethics, and Aesthetics. The name of her dissertation is ‘The Perception of Human Mortality in Ukrainian Culture in the Context of the Russian-Ukrainian War’. Her main research interests include fear of death, collective memory, and memorialization practices.
 
Yuliia obtained her master’s and bachelor’s degree from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and in 2019, she began researching topics of sociocultural meanings of suicide, and later, heroic death in mass culture.

In 2020, Yuliia graduated from Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defense University of Ukraine where she studied Military Political Science. Her main research areas were suicide prevention in the army, methods of propaganda and boosting soldiers’ morale in the context of high death-risk environments, and tools and organizational features of pastoral care for soldiers as well as rites for their dead comrades’ commemoration.
