Debra Torok was a Graduate Student Fellow at CFGS and a PhD Candidate in Clinical-Lifespan Psychology. She is grateful to live and study as an uninvited guest on the traditional and unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples. As part of the Youth Migration Project research team, Debra’s research focuses on experiences of forced migration among youth residing in Malaysia and along the Thai-Myanmar border. She has written about how youth in such precarious, and often oppressive contexts negotiate their sense of identity, belonging, and future aspirations. With the ongoing pandemic, her research has expanded to explore the potential of conducting transnational partnership research online. Currently, she is involved in an ongoing project collaborating with local partners in Thailand as they adapt, deliver, and evaluate the Peer-Mediated Storyboard method (Ball 2020) as an approach to psychosocial support for migrant youth.
