Kate Tennis is a PhD Candidate in International Relations at American University in Washington DC and a EU-Borders Visiting Researcher at the Centre for Global Studies at the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø. Her research focuses on global South-North migration, border control, and security. Her dissertation research explores the politics of border control externalization from the perspective of migrant sending and transit states, with a particular emphasis on Caribbean and Mediterranean border control and interdiction initiatives.

While at the Center for Global Studies, Kate will be conducting research on the evolution of Tunisian civil society discourses on migration. In addition to her dissertation work, she is conducting research on the determinants of asylum acceptance rates, the historical evolution of international cooperation in the field of migration, and transnational policy diffusion. Kate holds an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and a BA in International Development Studies from McGill University, Quebec.
