Iryna Matiyenko
Iryna Matiyenko is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø, and a Research Fellow with the Centre for Global Studies. In her research, Iryna explores the politics of Russian electronic identity cards ().
She is particularly focused on the influence of the electronic Moscow Resident Card (MRC) on national identity policies in Russia. Further, she is interested in the ways the MRC challenges privacy protection, facilitates welfare surveillance, and shapes the new identities of the welfare recipients, contributing to social sorting and discrimination. Iryna has a specialization in comparative politics and public policy analysis and a broad interest in Eastern European democratic transitions.
