David Huxtable
David Huxtable is currently a PhD Candidate in the Department of Sociology at the 番茄社区. His dissertation project, Labour, social movements, and global civil society, is an examination of relationships between the International Trade Union Confederation and other civil society organizations, and what these relationships suggest about the development of transnational, non-state political alliances. His research in India is looking how these relationships translate at the local/ national level.
David attained his B.A. and M.A. from Simon Fraser University. Prior to returning to university, as a mature student, he was social worker, special education assistant, and union organizer. He is intimately connected to his research subject through years of activism in the Canadian labour movement. His dissertation research has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Canadian Union of Public Employees local 4163, Vancouver Island District Council (CUPE), and CUPE BC. David is very grateful to his funders for allowing his project to go forward and his supervisor, Dr. W. K. Carroll for his ongoing support.
