Lydia Pengilley
Biography
Hello! My name is Lydia Pengilley (she/her). I am Secwépemc, Scottish, and Irish on my mom’s side, and English on my dad’s side. I was born and raised on Musqueam Territory in Richmond, BC, bringing an urban perspective due to the effects of colonization. I was fortunate to grow up watching my mom and grandmother advocate for Indigenous and women’s rights, which has driven my passion to carry their legacy in all the work I do.
The Indigenous Youth Internship Program brought me to the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples territory in 2021, and I have been a grateful guest here ever since. After IYIP, I worked for two Indigenous consulting companies where I planned and coordinated engagement sessions across BC. This experience has allowed me to sit in circle with communities listening and upholding the voices of Indigenous Peoples.
The intention I bring to my role as Events Coordinator is to provide support and guidance through the creation of safe and welcoming spaces for Indigenous students. I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my mentors, teachers, family, and friends who have held me up through this work, and I always strive to do the same for others.
Looking forward to meeting and working more closely with all of you!
