Week of Welcome

Week of Welcome

Join us for a week of connection and community building!

Twice a year IACE welcomes new and returning students to a special week designed to help Indigenous students connect, learn and thrive at UVic. Whether you're new to the university life or transitioning from another institution, this week is packed with activities and resources to support you every step of the way.

How to participate

Indigenous students are invited to drop into the Ceremonial Hall each day to learn and connect with the supports and resources available to them on and off campus.

What to expect

This is your opportunity to immerse yourself in the UVic community, make meaningful connections and access the resources you need to succeed. We encourage you to take full advantage of all the Week of Welcome has to offer.

  • Connect with the First Peoples House: Discover the heart of our Indigenous community at UVic. Learn about the resources, support services, and cultural programs available to you.
  • Meet the Elders: Engage with our Elders who offer wisdom, guidance and support. They are an integral part of our community and are here to help you navigate your journey.
  • Campus Cousins program: Get to know your Campus Cousins, fellow Indigenous students who are here to mentor and support you. They can provide insights, share experiences and help you feel at home.
  • IACE staff introductions: Meet the dedicated staff from the Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement (IACE) team. They are committed to your success and well-being, offering a range of services from academic advising to cultural support.
  • UVic supports and services: Learn about the various supports available on campus, including academic resources, counselling services, wellness, financial aid and more.
  • Off-campus resources: Discover the broader community resources that can enhance your experience at UVic, including local Indigenous organizations and support networks.
  • Social activities: Participate in fun and engaging social events where you can meet new friends and build connections within the Indigenous student community.
