About

Through LE,NOṈET programming, we're dedicated to creating a supportive environment for Indigenous students at the 番茄社区. Our Campus Cousins program offers leadership opportunities, community connections and valuable mentoring experiences.

The Campus Cousins, comprised of upper-level undergraduate or graduate Indigenous students, play a pivotal role in hosting a variety of academic and social/cultural events. From study halls and workshops to movie nights and feasts, they foster a sense of belonging and support for Indigenous students in the First Peoples House. 

Applicants to the Campus Cousins program are expected to be well-versed in UVic and IACE services, facilities, and programs. In recognition of their commitment and impact, Campus Cousins receive a stipend each term for their valuable contributions to the program's success.

Time commitment

  • attend training in early September
  • attend Campus Cousins meetings and check-ins with LE,NOṈET Student Leadership Program Coordinator
  • commit to participating from September - April (not including holidays and reading breaks)
    *this may include exam period-but will be decided once the group of Cousins is formed and a consensus is made. 

Responsibilities

  • Plan to coordinate and deliver an on-campus academic, social and/or cultural event (one per semester)
  • Promoting and attend all LE,NOṈET Campus Cousin events
  • Participate in visits from local schools and community outreach
  • Commit to one evening per week to be available at the FIrst Peoples House 
It is said that being the person that you wish was there for you is the best way to give back. Campus Cousins gives you the opportunity to get to know many more Indigenous students on campus, and be that smiling face that knows people's names and reassures them that they belong here. However you like to reach out - beading, board games, or basketball - the Campus Cousins program has room for you to share your interests with other students.
