Donate to Gender Studies

scholarship and bursary funds! Our bursaries have helped many students pay their way through university without increasing their student loan debt. Gender Studies scholarships reward our top students and help them financially, and the formal recognition of their achievement also increases their chances of future success.

Here are the details of all Gender Studies bursaries and awards.

We're currently raising funds to create the Christine Welsh Scholarship for Indigenous Gender Studies Students, to honour retiring Associate Professor Christine Welsh, Métis. In 1996, Christine was hired to teach Women's Studies, the first Indigenous instructor in UVic's Faculty of Humanities. At the time, she was already a well-respected filmmaker of NFB documentaries (Women in the Shadows, Keepers of the Fire) on Indigenous women and anti-colonial resistance. Since 1996, Christine has designed and taught courses on Indigenous women and cinema, made more award-winning documentaries, including The Story of the Coast Salish Knitters and Finding Dawn, mentored students, won awards for her teaching, advocacy and activism, and inspired everyone who has been privileged to know her.
