Full-time applicants: Applications must be complete by January 15; this includes referee letters, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to process. Late applicants may be considered, but their chances of admission are significantly decreased. To be considered for funding, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all their application materials well in advance of the official application deadline.
We accept a maximum of 15 full-time MA students each year for September admission.
The PhD program (full-time only) is extremely competitive, and most years we plan to accept 1 or 2 students for September admission. Applicants are strongly advised to explain why UVic is a good fit between their research interests and faculty specialisms. While having a prospective supervisor in place before applying is not essential, we highly recommend it due to the limited places available. Eligible prospective PhD applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for the SSHRC PhD Fellowship.
Part-time MA applicants: are considered on a rolling basis until the program is full. Applications must be complete and submitted by 15 June at the latest for a September intake. Part-time students are not considered for funding.
