We are an active community of instructors, researchers, and learners. With over 30 research faculty and more than 20 sessional instructors we are one of the largest departments on campus.

We have strengths in many areas including British, Canadian and American literature, from the Medieval period to the present, including Theory, Postcolonial, and Indigenous literatures.

In terms of research publications we are home to the ELS editions, and the Modernist Versions Project. Apart from our publications, the department can also measure our strength in our graduate student's research, the collegiality of instructors and students, and regular events such as the FYI, annual conferences, and visiting speakers.
