About

I was raised without religion but I wanted to talk about how to live a good life without gods.  Then while I was taking Philosophy, I found the Unitarians.  Unitarian groups include humanists, atheists, agnostics, believers, ex-believers and questioners.  We can even be a religion for people who are "spiritual but not religious" (SBNR).

Unitarians are deeply committed to explorations of ethics, and to seeking wisdom from science, religions of the world, and personal experience.

Unitarianism (or Unitarian Universalism) is a progressive religious tradition. It has a rich history that stretches back more then 500 years to the Protestant Reformation. It has evolved over the centuries to honour, appreciate, and include the wisdom of all of the world's religious traditions.

We are centered as a faith not around a particular dogma, creed, or set of beliefs but rather around shared values and an agreement about how we will strive to be and become as individuals and as a community.

Our first principle is "respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person". People in our congregations are agnostics, atheists, and believers in God and draw from many inspirational sources--art, poetry, music, scriptures. We value diversity and are inclusive of people of all genders, sexual orientations, racial and ethnic backgrounds and economic classes. We see the myriad ways of being human as gifts.

I am grateful to be on the UVic Multifaith team, providing assistance and a kindly ear to students and staff. I am on campus every day and available for conversation in person, by phone or by video.
