Experiential opportunities

Are you thinking of planning an adventure during your undergraduate degree? International travel and experiential learning opportunities can help students make the most of their time at UVic.

Co-operative education

Co-operative education (co-op) can complement your academic courses, allowing you to combine classroom learning with workplace experience. Students can graduate from UVic with up to 16 months of paid work experience and establish connections to help them launch their career.

Co-op programs are available within the Faculties of Humanities, Science and Social Sciences.

You can find more information on co-op through the Co-op Program site.

International exchange programs

Combine your passion for travel with your university education by applying for an exchange program. Immerse yourself in another culture, deepen your global perspective and add to your university experience while also earning credit toward your degree. UVic has partnership agreements with over 300 post-secondary institutions worldwide for you to consider:

Field schools

Some of UVic’s academic departments have developed field schools to help you learn beyond the classroom. Field schools are experiential and intercultural short-term courses that take you out of the classroom, allowing you to study and research in locations not only across Canada but also around the world. You will travel with a small group of students from UVic (and other BC post-secondary institutions) and work as a team under the guidance of a UVic faculty member.

Visit the international site to explore domestic and international field school opportunities.

Hands-on learning

Are you interested in independent research, labs, practical assignments and travel opportunities? If so, you may be interested in the discipline-specific hands-on learning opportunities.
