Health Science
Revolutionizing health care on the cellular level
By investigating how the body functions and disease on the molecular level, our researchers seek new diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative tools to improve health outcomes.
As well as being world leaders in genomics and structural proteomics research, our researchers have expertise in neuroscience, medical physics, medicinal chemistry, nanomaterials, biotechnology, developmental biology, cell signalling and cancer, infection and immunity, and in the mathematical modelling of disease dynamics.
Our edge:
- The , the best-equipped proteomics centre in Canada — is the core of UVic proteomics research and a national platform for research.
- Collaboration, joint faculty and programs and shared resources with BC Cancer Agency, Vancouver Island Centre, and Vancouver Island Health Authority, as well as UBC's Island Medical Faculty, enhance our research and educational programs.
Key groups:

Patent for potential vaccine candidate for syphilis
Caroline Cameron and colleagues have received a patent for a potential vaccine candidate aimed at preventing the bacterium from entering the bloodstream.
Research partnership seeks to improve drug delivery
UVic Chemistry is leading a collaborative of universities in BC, Ontario and Quebec in a six-year project to deepen research knowledge and train skilled personnel in the area of drug delivery.
National leadership in protein research
Christoph Borchers, director of the UVic-Genome BC Proteomics Centre, is leading a new pan-Canadian proteomics research platform.
