Information for Prospective Students
Graduate Application Information
- For September entry, the application deadline is December 1 of the previous calendar year in order to be considered for entrance awards. Students who have applied for an NSERC or CIHR scholarship must apply for admission by December 1.
- However, applications may be submitted at any point throughout the year for consideration. In some cases January or May entry may be possible.
- Student application information can be found on the Department of Physics & Astronomy webpage and also on the Faculty of Graduate Studies webpage.
- We receive more applications than we have available spots, hence, applications are reviewed and offers made on a competitive basis.

- Stipends are offered to all accepted applicants. For more information see the Financial Support Rules tab on the Physics and Astronomy Financial Support page.

MSc Program
Mandatory prerequisites
- The equivalent of an Honours Physics or Astronomy degree
- Must include at least 3 upper level (3rd or 4th year) Physics courses
- e.g. Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Statistical Mechanics, Thermal Physics
- Must include at least 3 upper level (3rd or 4th year) Physics courses
Useful prerequisites
- A basic understanding of a coding language such as Python or MATLAB
PhD Program
Mandatory prerequisites
- CAMPEP-accredited MSc degree in Medical Physics
- Applicants without a CAMPEP-accredited degree will be considered, but would be faced with taking all of the offered graduate CAMPEP courses during their PhD
Certificate Program
Mandatory prerequisites
- PhD in Physics (or a related field, such as Nuclear Engineering)
- Prerequisite class requirements include at least 3 upper level (3rd or 4th year) Physics courses
- e.g. Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Statistical Mechanics, Thermal Physics

Undergraduate Co-Op Program
The Medical Physics program offers co-op work terms to students in the undergraduate co-op program. The exact projects and timelines depend on the student and current circumstances.
