Intensity modulated radiation therapy
Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a recent development and a very useful tool to provide exquisite conformation of radiation beams to tumours and at the same time spare the surrounding normal tissues. It is a treatment that can be very labour intensive to be sure that the treatment delivered to the patient is safe & accurate. We are involved in developing efficient & novel ways of performing quality assurance tests.
In addition, our computer cluster employing Monte Carlo methods is capable of very accurately modelling IMRT treatment beams in matter (including patient x-ray CT 3-dimensional data sets) and this system has been employed in various co-op and graduate student projects.
