Emily Ashton
Position
Emily is pursuing a Doctoral degree in the School of Child and Youth Care at the 番茄社区. She is a graduate of the Critical Studies in Education Master’s program at the University of New Brunswick where she worked with the Early Childhood Centre to implement the province’s first early years’ framework. Her Crossing Borders Commonwealth Scholar’s research project will look at the potential for critical pedagogies of place to impact early childhood curriculum development in contextually relevant ways. This includes attending to the broader political, social, and geophysical forces that make up a place and to children’s relationships with teachers and friends, more-than-human existents, and other geological forces in a lakeside village in Malawi, Africa.
