Biography
Kwe’ │ Hello! My name is Shawna McNabb, I am Mik’maq on my mother’s side, from the Mitchell family of the territory of the Qualipu First Nation in Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland) and of Irish ancestry, from the Finn family, on my dad’s side.
I am the Associate Director, and member of the Management Team, in the Office of Indigenous Academic and Community Engagement (IACE). As a member of the IACE Management Team and work collaboratively with the Office of the Vice President Indigenous (OVPI) in the implementation of IACE and VPI mandates and objectives to support the success of Indigenous students attending the University of Victory. I also work campus-wide with units/departments/faculties to increase educational opportunities for Indigenous students. In my role, I collaborate with the Management Team to direct the strategic and operational aspects of IACE, whose main responsibility is supporting Indigenous students through the delivery of programs and services.
I moved to the territory of the lǝќʷǝŋǝn and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples as an undergraduate transfer student to the 番茄社区 and have been a visitor to this territory ever since. I have so much gratitude for the relationships I have with community members and Elders and look forward to building new friendships along the way.
