Biography

Tanshi! My name is Rob Hancock. On my mum’s side I come from a Cree-speaking Metis family from Treaty 8 Territory, and on my dad’s I’m English Canadian, although I was born and raised and am grateful to live and work in Lək̓ʷəŋən territory.

I am the Associate Director Academic, connecting our work at IACE with a wide range of academic programs and processes across the entire university. Along with this, I am the faculty lead for LE,NONET, with responsibility for co-teaching the Preparation Seminar (IS 310D) and teaching the Graduate Seminar (GS 500). I am also responsible for coordinating and delivering the Indigenous Cultural Acumen Training sessions for staff and faculty.

Building on my work with IACE, I have had the opportunity to contribute in the development of resources for Indigenous student affairs practitioners, including the  (with Ian Cull, Stephanie McKeown, Michelle Pidgeon and Adrienne Vedan) and the (with Cori Bazemore-James, Meg Evans, Saundra Mitrovich, Symphony Oxendine, Jack Soto and Stephanie Waterman). I serve as the Professional Development Co-Chair for the at ACPA.

I hold a faculty position as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology. I earned a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies and and MA in History here at UVic, and an Honours BA in Anthropology and Canadian Studies from McGill University.
