Biography

Brian Leacock is an associate professor of cross-cultural management, organizational behaviour & theory, organizational psychology, diversity & inclusion in organizations, and strategic leadership at the Gustavson School of Business. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses to diverse student groups and brings a global/interdisciplinary orientation. He places special attention on understanding and navigating our diverse and globalized world. Brian is also the recipient of multiple teaching and educational leadership awards, including: 1) Gustavson Award of Innovation Excellence in 2009, 2) Gustavson Award of Teaching Excellence in 2015, 3) Hickman Award for Excellence in Teaching and Educational Leadership in 2018, 4) Gustavson Faculty Excellence Award in 2019, and 5) Gustavson Award for Teaching Excellence in 2023.

Brian’s current area of scholarly inquiry focuses on intercultural competency development (conceptualization, assessment, and pedagogical innovation/training) for leadership in a globalized and integrated world. In fact, Brian has dedicated his academic career to supporting the development of intercultural competency skills in his students and corporate clients for the past two decades. He also devotes time to researching and teaching unconscious bias (UB), emotional intelligence (EQ), cultural intelligence (CQ), and equity/diversity/inclusion (EDI) in organizations. He is also active in the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoTL Canada), with a focus on study abroad, COIL, teaching to diversity, universal design, and the intersection of generative AI and pedagogy. Brian has twenty-five years (+) experience in educational leadership – spanning all aspects of senior governance, strategic planning/budgeting, strategic enrolment management, business development, pedagogical innovation, development projects (Global Affairs Canada), and all dimensions of international education.
