SDG 12 in action at Co-op and Career

Co-op and Career Services offers placements locally and abroad, where students have the opportunity to work in projects that support responsible consumption and production.

Recycling plastic bottles

Students clubs implement multiple recycling initiatives during the year to raise funds for student-led environmental projects, as this organized by the UVIC Punjabi Students Association.

Plastic waste student club

The ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Club engages UVic students on the issue of plastic pollution through educational events, beach cleanups, film screenings, and workshops.

Student led waste management

(UVSS) strives to minimize the environmental impacts of all of its operations, reduce waste and divert it from landfills.

Sustainable consumption and production

advances research in areas related to sustainability and governance in resource management, solid waste co-production, social grassroots innovations, the circular economy and epistemologies of waste.

Fighting greenwashing

UVic’s submitted a recommendation to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, to crack down on deceptive climate washing ads as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Green oceans and sustainable economy

Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) was featured as one of the pioneers and change ambassadors in Ocean Titans, a global docuseries for charting new paths towards a healthy, responsible and sustainable ocean stewardship and blue economy.

Climate and Sustainability Action Plan

The Climate and Sustainability Action Plan 2030 provides integrated responses to the challenges and opportunities of climate change, through a set of responsible solution in teaching, research and campus operations.

Eco Box

Food Services priority on waste reduction practices led to the creation of the ECO BOX Program, an opt-in reusable container program aimed at diverting landfill waste in our dining facilities.

Waste disposal

The hazardous waste management system deals with hazardous wastes on campus in an environmentally responsible manner, maintaining compliance with local regulations and demonstrating a best practices in environmental safety.

Minimization of plastic

UVic’s Waste reduction hub reduces plastic waste and the availability of plastic on campus, enforcing local and provincial policies and diverting waste from landfills, ensuring a responsible consumption model on campus.

Minimization of disposables

UVic’s Food Services is committed to promote the reusable mug use on campus, increase the percentage of sustainable Ocean Wise seafood, offering reusable plates/cups/cutlery and other initiatives instilling responsible consumption practices.

Ethical sourcing

UVic’s Supplier Code of Conduct supports the institutional commitments of sustainable consumption by defining the minimum ethical, social, and environmental standards expected of UVic Suppliers.
