Paula Rasmussen, GDS student, participated in a field school in Tanzania.

This one-day event will feature paper presentations and discussions that explore various theoretical, conceptual, and methodological perspectives related to Euro-American empires, slavery and the slave trade, race and racial discrimination, indigenous knowledge and colonial social policies, agency and anti-colonialism, gender and identity formation, (post)colonialism and language, (post)colonialism and religion, decolonization and decolonial practices, reconciliation, and postcolonial development. We invite you to submit a research paper or a poster proposal (we accept work in-progress or completed) that address topics with a focus on colonial and postcolonial societies. We welcome proposals exploring these and other themes within the (post)colonial world. The deadline for proposal submissions is March 20th, 2024. In May, 10 UVic students embarked on a two-and-a-half-week field school in Thailand where they learned about issues of development, environment and community resilience.
