Giving to Physics and Astronomy
Fundraising Priorities
Astbury Lecture Series
The Astbury Public Lecture series aims to bring exceptional scientists and public speakers to the 番茄社区. The series celebrates the contributions of Alan Astbury FRS (1934-2014), including the tremendous role he played in building particle physics research at UVic and in Canada. The inaugural Astbury Lecture was presented by CERN Director General, Rolf-Dieter Heuer, in April 2015. The department is seeking support to sustain the lecture series as an annual event for the university.
Student Travel Awards
Physics and Astronomy is a global research endeavor, and our students have the opportunity to work at some of the best facilities in the world, including the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and large astronomical observatories in Hawaii and in Chile. In order to provide both undergraduate and graduate students with the greatest opportunity to travel to these facilities, and also to international conferences and workshops to disseminate their work and to learn about the work of others, the department is seeking to raise funds for Student Travel Awards.
Climenhaga Student Scholarship
Since Dr. Climenhaga’s death in 2008, it has been the hope of his family that funding for the John L. Climenhaga Scholarship be made fully sustainable and that scholarships be granted to additional deserving students in physics and astronomy each year. Friends, colleagues, and family members are invited to honour the career and accomplishments of John Climenhaga by contributing to his .
We invite you to contact the or the Faculty of Science Development Office to discuss options for giving to UVic Physics and Astronomy. Alternatively, please see the Physics & Astronomy options listed on the website.
