Two UVic led research projects awarded $215K in infrastructure support from latest round of CFI-JELF funding

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced more than $64 million to support 251 research infrastructure projects at 40 universities across the country.
Funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) included support for 25 projects across BC to help universities recruit and retain outstanding researchers through the state-of-the-art labs, equipment and facilities.
Two UVic-led projects received a total of $215K in infrastructure funding to build a historic human rights database and acquire state-of-the-art remote sensing equipment to measure real-world traffic emissions.
These CFI-funded projects underscore UVic’s commitment to social justice and climate change. Present challenges of migration, racism, and security underscore the importance of understanding our history to forge new paths forward, while analyzing Canada-specific emission factors will improve transportation policies on air quality and reduce traffic-related air pollution.

Remote Sensing of On-Road Vehicle Emissions – Laura Minet, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (Civil Engineering)
A remote sensing platform, thermal camera, and portable meteorological station to measure emissions from a large fleet of on-road vehicles.
