It鈥檚 with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Wesley J. Koczka on March 9. Wes worked at UVic from September 1988 to February 2007. He was hired initially as a program coordinator in Education Extension, then assumed the role of director of the English Language Centre, and was appointed dean of the Division of Continuing Studies in 1997. He served as dean until 2007. Later, he held senior leadership roles in the in the private university sector and then at Thompson Rivers University, where he took on the role of associate vice-president international and CEO of TRU World Global Operations.
Prof. Samuel L. Macey, a distinguished member of the Department of English for two decades, passed away on March 11, the eve of his 91st birthday.
Dr. Louis Costa died in Arizona on March 12 at the age of 80. Costa came to the Department of Psychology in 1978 from City College in New York where he had trained and had been chair of the Psychology Department.
Brenda Copeland (child and youth care) passed away unexpectedly on March 19. Brenda鈥檚 passion for her family and for improved quality of life for marginalized children and youth shone through all of her endeavours.

Reginald Roy, one of the pioneering members of the Department of History, distinguished veteran and military historian, has died at the age of 90. In 1959, Reg became the first full-time historian hired by Victoria College and was among the faculty transferred to the new 番茄社区 when it was founded in 1963. Reg taught at the university until his retirement in 1988.
Dr. Trevor Williams died in Victoria on Jan. 11. The day before, at a special convocation ceremony at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies David Capson presented Trevor Williams with his doctoral certificate on behalf of the UVic Senate.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Roderick MacIsaac (1966鈥2012), a PhD student in the Faculty of Human and Social Development (School of Public Administration), was held at the Interfaith Chapel on Jan. 24. The memorial was attended by his family, and doctoral student, faculty and work colleagues. Evert Lindquist, director of the School of Public Administration, described MacIsaac as skilled in quantitative analysis and working with data, who had high standards and was hitting his stride as an applied researcher. 鈥淗e was a quiet and methodical student with a wry sense of humour and knowledgable about a wide variety of topics,鈥 said Lindquist. 聽
Patrick Robert Konkin, retired manager of the Student Facilities Group in University Systems, passed away on Jan. 14 following a brief illness.
